MCI preparation
The Medical Council of India Screening Test, also known as the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE), is a licensure examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in India. The test is one of the mandatory requirements for an Indian citizen who has a medical degree from a college outside India to practice medicine in the country
Training courses for MCI (Medical Council of India) exam, compiled on the initiative of the University Administration, have started functioning since 2012, practically at once after Medical Faculty №3 was organized in order to improve teaching and learning of foreign citizens at BSMU.
The purpose to organize the training courses was and still is improvement of the quality of training foreign citizens and assistance to confirm Diplomas of BSMU graduates while taking MCI exam at home. First of all, it concerns students from India, since the biggest number of Indian students in Ukraine study at our University.
Since the first years of functioning the training courses for MCI exam have demonstrated their high efficiency, and the number of BSMU graduates, Indian citizens, who confirm their Diplomas at first try has increased several times as many.
Thus, according to NBE (National Examination Board of India) information practically a half of BSMU graduates (several hundred every year) confirm their Diplomas at first try annually and can set to medical practice and specialization in their country.
In the framework of the BSMU cooperation, administration of university organized the visits of Indian professors to BSMU for lectures in different medical disciplines for foreign students to prepare for successful FMGE examination. Thus, during 2015-18, foreign students from India were taught by Indian teachers (a cycle of lectures on anatomy – Prof. Rajesh Kushushal, biochemistry and psychiatry – Prof. Dharandra Singha, physiology – of Prof. Gindala; anatomy – Dr. Verma Shrikant). Thanks to the complex of measures for preparing for the FMGE at the University, a significant part of graduates have successfully passed the exam on the first attempt in recent years. BSMU graduates occupy competitive positions among graduates of other higher educational institutions in the world. (59,2% of 2022 year graduates pass FMGE of 1st attempt). At the same time, the average MCI exam pass rate for Indian citizens returning home after graduating from other world medical institutions is about 29%.
6-year students (University graduates) before going home during the whole final year of studies are tested on the University educational platform in a controlling regimen similar to that of MCI exam.
