FACULTY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY
A modern pharmacist must possess deep knowledge and be, at the same time, a chemist, pharmacologist, marketer, and even a psychologist, since a pharmacist is often the first person a sick individual turns to for help.
It is precisely such highly qualified specialists that are trained at the Medical and Pharmaceutical Faculty of Bukovinian State Medical University (BSMU).
The Faculty of Pharmacy was established in August 2004, although training in the field of Pharmacy began earlier, in 2001, due to the shortage of pharmaceutical professionals in Bukovyna and neighboring regions. Since September 1, 2024, the faculty has been renamed the Medical and Pharmaceutical Faculty (Order No. 06-o dated 30.08.2024), and international students of the Medicine specialty have been incorporated into its structure.
Currently, student admission is carried out for the specialty “Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy” (educational degree – Master) in full-time and part-time forms of study on the basis of:
- complete general secondary education (after 11 years of schooling) – 5 years of full-time study;
- previously obtained qualification of a Junior Specialist, Professional Junior Bachelor, or Junior Bachelor in Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy – 4 years (full-time) or 4.5 years (part-time) of study, starting from the 2nd year;
- previously obtained Specialist or Master’s degree in the field of Health Care – 4 years (full-time) or 4.5 years (part-time), starting from the 2nd year.
Training is conducted under the educational and professional program “Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy,” accredited by the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance (Certificate No. 1968, valid until July 1, 2026).
Over the years, the faculty has graduated more than 1,500 pharmacy specialists with higher education. A wide range of career opportunities and excellent employment prospects make the Medical and Pharmaceutical Faculty one of the most popular faculties at BSMU.
The success of training is ensured by the involvement of highly qualified teaching staff, a modern material and technical base, and a combination of traditional classroom learning with elements of distance education, including online lectures, consultations, and the use of the university’s e-learning platform. The teaching staff includes 25 Doctors of Science and 70 Candidates of Science in medical, chemical, and pharmaceutical fields, which is essential for quality professional preparation. The faculty includes 10 departments.
Graduating departments responsible for the professional training under the program “Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy” are the Department of Pharmacy, Department of Medical and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Department of Pharmaceutical Botany and Pharmacognosy.
A structural unit of the faculty is the Educational and Research Site for the Cultivation of Medicinal Plants, where students undertake practical training in Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Botany. The Educational and Production Pharmacy plays a key role in practical training, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in Pharmacy Technology, Organization and Economics in Pharmacy directly in real working conditions.
In addition, students complete their practical training in Drug Technology at modern pharmaceutical enterprises, including JSC “Halychpharm”, PJSC “Pharmaceutical Company Darnitsa”, and the YURiA-PHARM Corporation.
The high quality of education is confirmed by students’ leading positions in the national Unified State Qualification Examination. Faculty students actively participate in All-Ukrainian student competitions (Olympiads) in Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Chemistry, and Clinical Pharmacy, achieving numerous awards.
Great attention is also given to scientific research, particularly through the Student Scientific Society, whose members successfully present their work at national and international conferences of students and young scientists. Studying at the Medical and Pharmaceutical Faculty of BSMU provides students with solid knowledge, practical experience, mentorship, and lifelong friendships, opening new horizons for professional growth. Almost all graduates of the faculty are successfully employed, working not only in Ukraine, but also abroad — in Germany, Romania, Poland, Italy, and other countries.
